Zurich/Rome - The European Solar Prize is being awarded on 24 November in Rome to honour projects that demonstrate outstanding commitment to the use of renewable energy. Three Swiss projects are among the winners.

According to the Swiss Solar Agency, one of the organisers of the European Solar Prize, three Swiss projects are among this year’s winners, having successfully competed against 32 projects from EU countries.

Giorgio Hefti, founder and CEO of TRITEC AG,received the special achievement prize for individual commitment 2014. Heft has helped realise more than 15,000 solar installations worldwide with a capacity of 400 MW. The is more than the actual performance of the first three Swiss nuclear power plants (Beznau I and II and Mühlberg) with their 365 to 373 MW.

Flumroc AG was presented with the European Solar Prize 2014 in the category “Industrial and commercial companies or farmers” for its administrative facilities. Thanks to a renovation that included reinforced insulation, an integrated solar façade and a monocrystalline photovoltaic roof system, the building was transformed into an energy-positive facility that produces surplus solar energy for the Flumroc factor.

The third winner was COOP in the “Transport and mobility” category for its fleet of twin-engine 300 KW electric trucks. With over 400 hp, they are the largest photovoltaic systems travelling on Swiss roads.
